Digestive enzymes and the post pregnancy belly bulge.

After the birth of Boo, 2 years ago, I never seemed to lose the belly bulge that can be a mommy mark of pregnancy. My friends and I joked that if we ever had a C-section they should go ahead and do a tummy tuck at the same time to get rid of the added fat that plagues our mid section.

Not everyone has the belly bulge problem but my second pregnancy left me feeling like I would never look the same again. That is until my friend Elizabeth told me about digestive enzymes. She said that she added a plant based digestive enzyme to her daily supplements and lost 10 pounds without changing anything.

I was intrigued and thought that, even though I was not looking to lose weight, the enzymes might help with the bulge. I began to research digestive enzymes and found that they help break down food so that your body can absorb the nutrients and alleviate digestive problems; that made sense.

Plant based enzymes are said to help break down hard to digest foods such as beans, dairy products, meats and complex carbohydrates. I tend to eat on the go and even though I try to incorporate the right supplements, I probably do not do a great job of eating a balanced diet at every meal.

I went to the health food store and bought the product that the sales person recommended. She said that it would make a visible difference in my body because I would be releasing the toxins that I was holding on to, apparently in my mid section.

I wasn’t sure that the enzymes could remove what pregnancy had provided but was willing to take a chance, plus the sale person seemed so sure that I would see a "visible" difference.

It has been 2 weeks of taking the plant based digestive enzymes religiously and I have to say that I do notice a difference in the way that I feel. I have more energy and my pants don’t feel snug after I eat.

I still see the bulge but am hoping that after a few more weeks it will fade a little. At the very least I feel good and seem to have less of a craving for carbohydrates and caffeine. All in all, I feel that adding the enzymes has made a difference, even if my belly doesn’t show it - YET!

Off to make another Mommy Milestone.
