Boo had been pulling his plastic golf bag as he ran from the family room to the bedroom and back, over and over. Suddenly, BAHMMM, Boo did a face plant into the back of the recliner. He backed up, looked a little shocked and started over.
WOW!
AJ heard the noise and came to investigate or maybe just instigate. He started to chase Boo around the house; Boo ditched the clubs and they took off. Boo knocked AJ down then AJ knocked Boo down. It seemed like a fun part of the game.
I sat in amazement at the game they had created. Neither cared about the crashes, bumps or bangs; all that mattered was having fun, laughing and of course, who was the leader. The next lap included blankets and a quick game of hide and seek as they ran. It appeared that bouncing off of the furniture and falling down was the goal and they were doing it well.
I wondered if I should let them run and play or end the game. The decision to be strict or lenient is made many times a day. I decided that the game was helping them burn off extra energy and have some brotherly fun.
Just when it seemed like the perfect game, a beach ball flew through the air and bounced off of the family room mirror.
Boo stopped and looked at me as "Oops" came quietly out of AJ’s mouth. It was as if the final whistle of the game had blown. The game was over but the happiness showed on their faces.
I smiled to myself, they had fun, no one go hurt and they knew when the line had been crossed. I felt proud, they understood what I had been teaching them in the past and had learned. I didn’t need to say a word; they calmed down and relaxed on the couch. Boo even drifted off to sleep.
Off to make another Mommy Milestone.
