Today we are off on our family vacation to Florida. Everyone is excited for the trip. The boys are thrilled about riding on an airplane. Packing for three takes a lot more time and planning than packing for one. I made sure to bring the precautionary medicines and digital thermometer; when traveling with the boys it is a good idea to have everything but the kitchen sink.
Joe and I decided to limit our carry on items to bare necessities – diaper bag, snacks, juice boxes, books, crayons, small toys, DVD player, movies, headphones, blankets, pillows and finally one favorite stuffed animal per child. Much to our amazement, it fit into 2 medium sized bags.
I am happy to say that TSA allows enough juice for us to get to our final destination. Juice, breast milk and formula must be declared at security but it’s as easy as putting them into a Ziploc bag with your other liquids. Thank you TSA! You can read their policy at http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/formula.shtm.
We are flying United and their new policy is that each passenger is allowed 1 checked bag and then assessed fees for additional baggage. For a family of 4 the new policy can be a joke.
Our boys have been traveling since birth and a helpful flight attendant once told me to have the boys suck or chew on something at take off and landing. Pressure changes can hurt their little ears and sucking on a bottle or pacifier, or chewing on a fruit snack, can relieve the pressure. This tip has saved us, and them, a few times and will be used on this trip too. Scooby Snacks are their treat of choice right now, much to my dismay.
Off to make another Mommy Milestone.
