In my experience as a prenatal chiropractor I have found that often the reason that the baby is not latching properly (i.e. not opening wide enough or preferring to feed on one side, or mom ending up having really, really sore nipples) is because the baby has a misalignment of the jaw or the first few bones in the neck. It is a very easy thing to correct and really makes things easier for baby and mom especially. Adjusting a baby is much different than adjusting an adult and is very gentle. You can find a chiropractor in your area who is trained to work with baby's by going to www.icpa4kids.org and click on find a doctor. There is also some info about latching difficulties on my clinic web site which is in canada at http://www.entertogetwell.ca/chiropractic-articles/pregnancy/breastfeeding-problems.aspx
Good luck with your breastfeeding experience. I hope things are going great!
