"At six weeks, a baby is still just barely more than a clump of cells -- his brain is just beginning to develop and limbs are just starting to sprout -- but none of the other internal organs have even started taking shape."
All the pregnancy books and sites I've looked at say that by 6 weeks the baby's heart is beating and BabyCenter says the nose, ears and mouth are beginning to take shape. Arms and legs are protruding buds...Heart beating 100- 160 times a minute, Intestines developing, pituitary gland forming, baby is quarter inch long and about the size of a lentil. The book says that in week 7 the baby doubles in size to a half inch and has a liver and the two hemispheres of the brain are developing.
I hardly think all of that qualifies as "barely more than a clump of cells." I resent that description, actually. After all, we are all just "clumps of cells" and it makes it sound so devalued to describe a baby that way.
I am in my 6th week and have not had an ultra sound yet.
