Just found out I'm going to be a first time GRANDMA in August !  My daughter and son-in-law recently just told both sets of grandparents. However, understandably, they would like to wait a month or so before announcing their exciting news to friends and extended family members. 

Anyway, I was wondering if sending out a 'Prenancy Announcement' (not Birth Announcement, or Shower Invitation) would be appropriate ? Since I enjoy crafts, I thought I would make the announcement myself and mail when the new parents give their okay to spread the word.

Is this something that new parents are already doing ?  I am hoping that by sending out such an announcement would also eliminate embarassing situations such as "the first time someone hears about the pregnancy is when they received a Baby Shower Invitation in the mail !"  

My only hesitation in doing so, is that I DO NOT want it to appear that we are looking for gifts.  

Any comments or suggestions ? 

Hmmm... announcing "the news" is usually left to the parents, but you know your daughter best.  I haven't heard of this before (unless it goes out with a Christmas card or something that is already being mailed).  I don't think it will look like you're asking for gifts, but I would be cautious about your daughter and son in law's feelings.  After all, this is their very exciting news!

Maybe you could compromise and send an "I'm Going to be a Grandmother!"  announcement to your friends; that would be FUN! 

This is what would work for ME.  Talk to your daughter and see how she feels.

up in my home town here population of about 5-6thousand.. we have alot of parents announce their dd pregnancy. how they do it is Put a picture of the parents to be in the news paper then send out a "notice" to all your family to look out for your dd and sil picture in the paper...  That is what we do, if you want something less exspensive then maybe throw a tea party.... Talk with your dd about what she thinks
