I'm good thanks, wow you're almost ready for you little girl to be here! That's GREAT! When is your due date?

Well I wanted to have a natural birth as well with my first. But after 14 hours of induced labor (he was a week late) I only dialated 2 cms (went in at 4 cms) so they had to give me a c-section, so I had to have the epidural. It ended up the best choice because the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck twice and across his face, so he couldn't move down into the birth canal. But he was perfectly healthy with no complications. So of course I wouldn't change a thing.

Doing it again, I hope I'm able to have a vbac, but not sure my OB will do it, if I can, I'll opt for natural again. the contractions are bad but they were bareable for me. (but I'm told I have a high tolerance for pain) I had some side effects from the epidural 3 days after I came home and that pain was worse then anything I EVER experienced.

I'm sorry I don't mean to scare you. I think  you need to do what is best for you. You know your body the best and know how much pain you can tolerate. I suggest maybe start with the idea of going natural but be open for all options if needed. Nothing is wrong with having an epidural and many woman have one and don't have any side effects.

Let me know how it all goes!!!

The best thing for you to do is to ask about the side effects of the epidural. Imagine contractions being the worst possible menstrual cramps. That's how I can describe them to you. There are other methods than just the epidural. They have tons of pain meds they can give you to help take the edge off. But don't be afraid to ask for the epidural. I have been told it felt like a bee sting. I didn't have one with my son and don't plan on it this one. I wish you luck though!

Congrats!  I too just found out we are expecting our second child on the 26th of this month.  We have a 21 month old daughter so we are hoping for a boy.

Here's to a happy and healthy pregnancy!

Re: hi nice to meet you

I had an epidural with both deliveries.  My son and daughter faced no side effects whatsoever.  I felt no pain at all.  I'm the biggest wimp in the world and I know I would not be able to do a natural birth.  I was worried about the side effects when my husband and I were figuring out our birth plan.  In the end, my wimpiness won.  To me, because I had no pain, I was able to enjoy the birthing process.  I was able to joke around with my family in the delivery room while waiting to push.

Do whatever feels right in your heart.  If you strongly oppose meds, don't get the epidural.  If you have a good tolerance of pain, go for the natural.  If you're a true wimp like me, go for the epidural.

    Good luck!

Hey I have had 2 children and with my daughter I had epidural and loved it. I t took away all of the pain, and with my son I did completely natural. I now wish I had taken the epidural with him. I couldnt enjoy any of the process because of the pain. Plus he was a big baby, so that didnt help. I didnt feel the epidural since I was having contractions during while I was recieving it. The only advice I can give you is dont try to be superwoman, god gave us epidurals for a reason.! LOL!
