Yes, it was in a hospital. Before I chose my Dr and hospital I interviewed and asked around to others who had used them. Once I found my OB, I also asked his opinion on which hospital was most likely to honor my wishes for birth and support me. My OB was the biggest factor in the entire situation because the staff at the hospital was supportive of whatever he was supportive of. I wrote up a birth plan and gave a copy to my Dr and the hospital when I registered and again when I got there for delivery. They were very supportive, I had no medical intervention, they allowed me to do as I wanted from walking around to sitting on a birthing ball, on all fours in the bed, whatever I needed to feel more comfortable, they only checked me when I asked for it, which was only 2x. I really couldn't have asked for a more picture perfect labor and birth experience and I feel it was that way because I educated myself in all my decisions and spoke with staff before hand to let them know what I wanted and made sure that they could and would support my decisions (all of course pending an uncomplicated birth) I believe the most important thing for you to do in order to know that your wishes will be honored is to check a couple of hospitals, if you have more than one available to you, and speak with the L&D nurses to find the place you are most comfortable. And most importantly, stay at home as long as possible, the longer you're in the hospital the longer labor tends to last. I went to the hospital when my contractions were 1 to 2 mins apart for over an hour, I was 4 cm when I got there and 2 1/2 hours later my daughter was born. It was perfect. I wish you all the luck in the world with this labor and delivery, have faith in yourself, you can do it! Congratulations!
