7 month old barely sleeping for 2 hours at a time.

It's official that I have not slept for more than 3 hours at a time for 7 months (with two exceptions when he was sick and slept for 6 hours straight). My 7 month old boy wakes up, on average, every two hours. However, throughout the night he has times when he sleeps for 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, and very rarely, 3 hours at a time. I am at my wit's end. Everything in my life, especially relationships and quality of life in general is suffering. I am depressed because I am up so much and rarely get through a full sleep cycle, let alone multiple ones at once. I am a zombie all day long. My husband helps as much as he can, but so much of the time Thomas (our baby) will only go back to sleep when nursed. We've tried to let him cry. We've tried just going in and trying to calm him down without picking him up. But he works himself up into such a fit that nothing will calm him down except nursing. (meaning: screaming, crying so hard he stops breathing, and so on.) It breaks my heart to hear him so upset in the night, and I am at a total loss as far as what to do. People have said that he's teething. The doctor said he was teething and that's why he's not been sleeping. However, this started when he was just barely 3 months old. He was sleeping SO much better than this. Granted, then he slept for a 4 hour stretch and then woke up every two hours after that for the rest of the night, but at least that was better. Please help!!!

Bless your heart, I totally relate to this..... I never had a problem with my daughter sleeping, my son was a very different story, sounds exactly like yours. He would only go back to sleep if I nursed him, that was every hour and a half to 2 hours, I finally had to pump some milk and put it in bottles for him and when he woke up just take it to him and leave the room, he could hold his own bottle. He would cry and cry but I finally just had to let him lay in there and cry and not go back in. He eventually grew out of it and now he might wake up once for a bottle and he will be one Thursday the 17th. He has been on whole milk since he was 9 mths old, however he still nurses also when he wants to......I also started giving him some cereal just before bed to help keep his belly full.  That seemed to help. You are just going to have to let him cry it out, thats what the dr's finally told me to do, I was like you, at my wits end with it. I hated to hear him cry not to mention my daughter who I didnt want him to wake up....but it worked....Good luck!
