    Tay Sachs

I just had an amnio yesterday because we discovered that both my husband and I are tay sachs carriers. That means there is a 25% chance our baby would be born with tay sachs - basically a deadly genetic disorder. I am being positive becuase we have a 75% chance everything is okay. I think this is going to be the hardest 2 weeks of waiting in my pregnancy... Anyone else dealing with this - or know someone who is?

I don't know anyone else that is going through this but I just wanted to say that I'm here and just try and relax because you do have such high odds that nothing is wrong at all. I'll keep you and your baby in my prayers.

    Hi there--

How are things going?  Have you gotten your amnio results back?  I'm sure it's been a very emotional 2 weeks.

    Re: Tay Sachs

Well kinda, they called me last week and told me that everything else came back great (that part I wasn't worried about), but that the lab quoted wrong and its another 2 weeks until we know about the tay sachs. 4 WEEKS!!! We will not know anything until the week of the 21st. My genetic counselor was very upset and said that the lab is very good, but is not sure why they quoted her the wrong amount of time. So we are still waiting.

I am almost at the point that you are with tay sachs.  I am 11 weeks pregnant and my DR just called me yesterday to let me know that I had an ambiguous test come back for Tay Sachs.  Now my husband has to get tested for it also.  I am SO scared and a million things are running through my mind.  I have one question for you though because it seems no-one else can help me with these questions.  If he and I are carriers and I decide to keep the baby, can they tell if the baby has Tay Sachs through amniocentisis?  Does anyone else know, or is going through this situation??? It's so scary.  Please let me know.
