    Overdue...

So I am now 4 days overdue and on sunday they will give me an induction date, i really didn't want to be induced. I was planning on trying to do it without meds, especially pain meds. From what I hear pitocin makes that pretty much impossible. Has anyone ever been induced not using pitocin, or have any good suggestions to help so that I don't have to have pitocin?? I just wanted to vent and see if anyone has any suggestions!! Thanks ladies!!! Good luck and I hope you all are doing well!!!!!!!

Why are they inducing? Just out of curiosity. Four days isn't very long, I would put it off as long as I could if I were you. I haven't had it done, but everyone I know that has has had a really hard time.

They would be giving me an induction date on sunday, so i don't know when it will be, but as of sunday I will be 6 days overdue. Our hospital doesn't let you hit 42 weeks. I don't know why...military hospital, they aren't very informative on why they do things. I'm trying to put off as long as possible, but I just wanted any info on any tried and true tricks to get labor started. Thanks!

Hi.  I feel your pain.  I was 16 days overdue with my son before I was induced with Pitocin.  I tried alot of things to start labor--sex, accupuncture, eating spicy food, Castor Oil (yuck!  don't do this one!), eating eggplant, foot massages, etc.  While none of these actually got labor going, I was already 5 cm. dialated when I went in for the induction, so I was already through the tough phase where some people who get induced have labor stall out.  Good luck!  I would recommend putting off the induction date as long as they let you and trying some of these remedies.  I would have much preferred to go in labor naturally, but by day 16 I was ready to get him out!  :)

Hi. I had to be induced with all three of my children and probably will be with number four. I was a week over due with my first and he was 10lbs 14oz. I had a very tough delivery with him but not due to the pitocin. They induced me early with my other two because of the size of my first. I know the contractions are stronger with the pitocin but that does not mean you can't do it with out pain meds. I had no pain meds through three inductions so it is possible. Most hospitals now don't like to wait as long because they are affraid the baby will be too big and there are other possible complications. I hope you go on your own but if you are induced just know that anything is possible. Good luck.

    Re: Overdue...

I was induced with both my boys.  First one because he was late and I got an epidural but it didn't work so I figured the second time I would do without pain meds because I did it the first time.  I was induced with second early because of blood pressure and I did it without any pain meds.  I can't say it wasn't hard but it can be done.  I am hoping that this time around I go into labor natural but it is not looking good because of the gest diabetes but should I get induced again I plan on doing it without pain meds again.  GOOD LUCK!

    Re: Overdue...

There is a medical reason they don't want you going too far past your due date. The placenta starts to deteriorate and the uterus can become a hostile environment for the baby. They can start to have issues just like being born too soon. I was induced with both my pregnancies and I agree that pitocin is an evil drug, but if you have a good plan together there is no reason you can't do it. I also think there's no reason to feel guilty if you do opt for pain relief, you end up with a baby either way! Also, if you have a breast pump, use it. Constant, non-stop nipple stimulation can jump start labor. Good luck!
