    Gestational Diabetes Testing

Hi Everyone, well my inital test came back positive and a bit high so my doctor is sending me for the three hour test.  Can anyone provide any insight?  My doctor is pretty sure that I have it because my numbers were so high so I want to know what to expect.

There is a post under high risk pregnancies where there was much discussion between moms with GD and moms who have diabetes normally. There are even a few web sites and recipe ideas a few shared as well. Good luck!

Hey dont be alarmed I went for my one hours last tues and got results on friday that mine was high 163 to be exact which is 23 over the 140 limit they allow you during pregnancy well I went Mon for the three hours and got results back yesterday and they were fine so dont be alarmed there is a slight risk but most mommies to be will generally fail the 1 hour due to alot of glucose in a short period of time and the pancreas cant break it down that fast. But good luck I hope yours comes out like mine did.

Thanks for responding ladies.   Unfortunately, my results came back positive but I am lucky to only have to control it with diet as I don't need insulin.  I am counting my blessings on that:)

Hi! Sorry your results came back pos. and not to try to concern you, but just because you are diet controled now doesn't mean you will stay that way. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I have had GD each time. I was put on insulin only 20 days before I delivered with my first. With #2 I was on insulin for about 3 months. With this one I have been controled via diet and an oral medication called glyburide. First I took only one pill at night because my fasting blood sugars were high, then my sugars during the day started creeping up as well and so now I take a pill in the morning as well. I just wanted to let you know that it is possible for your body to change as you get farther along in your pregnancy even though your diet remains the same. Hopefully things go well for you! I consider myself to be a success story since I needed insulin with the first 2 and not this one, plus I have gained a total of 2 pounds and I am scheduled to deliver on Wednesday night! So it can be done, good luck.
