    Finally got a POSITIVE!

    Hello Everyone,

    Congratulations to all of you!

I just took an at home pregnancy test last week and got a positive. I have an appointment for tomorrow. I was told that I have to see a nurse first for a pregnancy test and once they confirm the pregnancy then I can see my doctor. Not sure if it works the same everywhere or not, but I was a little bummed out that I was not going to be able to see a doctor yet. We've been trying for a few months and I was told so many times to just get my mind off it and it would happen, and once I did, it finally happened! We were packing and getting ready to move. It was a crazy month last month. There was not much time to "plan" baby making, and now that we moved into our new place, I take the test, and there it is "+" I can't even describe all the thoughts that raced through me. There are not enough words to describe it!

I feel a little alone right now due to the fact that my husband and I decided that we would wait a few weeks before we tell our family and friends. We are thinking about possibly at least telling our parents the good news. Especially due to the fact that two of his relatives on his mom side are in the hospital and his mom could really use some good news. An on my end, tomorrow is my mom's birthday and this would be the first grandchild for my parents. We are still debating. We are a little scared because a lot of people that we know have had miscarriages and we are afraid that something could go wrong and then so many people would be sooo sad. It feels like we would be creating an emotional roller-coaster. But we'll see what happens over the course of this week.

I wanted to ask if anyone could suggest a good book that would give me a better idea of what I can expect, time-lines, procedures, do's and don'ts and everything else that is involved with being pregnant.

Thank you all and again, Congratulations for all your bundles of joy that are on the way!

    Re: Finally got a POSITIVE!

Congrats on your pregnancy!  We were very scared too to tell people early but at the same time, it is just more people to support you if something happens.  It is a personal preference for you and your husband but I know it is hard to keep the joy inside.

I know many people will give you recommendations but my favorite book (this is my first child) is the Pregnancy Journal.  The reason I like this one over any others is it gives you a day by day account of what is happening with the baby, your body and then some tips.  Many of the other books do monthly accounts and I just find this one pretty fun to get up every morning to see what is happening with the baby.    And for baby stuff, I completely recommend the book Baby Bargins.  It really helps with registering or just what products are best for the baby.

     Good luck!

Congrats! I just wanted to say that the old"What to Expect When Your Expecting" is a great book. The Internet is a great resource of information but don't let yourself get to rapped up in all the what if"s???? There is a lot of stuff out there that can only give unneeded stress. Just let yourself relax and enjoy this time it will be over before you know it.

The internet is a great source for information, and ePregnancy is a fabulous reference for your changing body! Our 42 Weeks of Pregnancy highlights not only what's happening for Mom week-by-week, but also what Dad should be doing to help and what Baby is experiencing in the womb.

It's a must-read, every week, and it is easy to do! From the homepage of ePregnancy.com, just choose your current week from the drop down menu and start reading! And if you want to skip ahead a little, that's okay, too - we won't tell. Wink

Congratulations and enjoy your pregnancy! We're glad you're here!

    Hello,

Thank you for your advice and your kind words. I will try not to let anything I read stress me out too much and just take it for what it is at the moment. Thank you for the tip on the Baby Bargains, I will have to look for that.

I went to the doctor's office today and confirmed that I am 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Estimated due date of May 4th 2009 based on my last period. What an amazing feeling. I don't have words to describe it and it still has not completely settled in. A true blessing from God for us. We have been praying for a few months and the time has come.

Thank you again for your help, guidance and your words.

Yes, it is a wonderful feeling -- Indescribable!

We feel very blessed and at times still do not even have words to describe how we feel. We are very excited and thankful.

    BIG FAT CONGRATS TO YOU!!!

One of the better books I found out there is What to expect when you're expecting.  It gives you time lines, do and don'ts and lists every month and everyone's questions.  The book is updated with all new questions and I believe it is already on it's 4th re-write.  Highly recommend this book.  Another one that is very good with pictures to teach our hubbies was Good House Keeping's Guide to Pregnancy and Childhood.  (I believe this is the name)  I received the book as a gift, but it is very helpful from how to properly change, bathe, what to expect when feedings solids...you name it and it was in there.  From conception to toddlers.

As for the doctor appt, most will see you around 8-10wks.  I also had a test to confirm with blood work and hcg levels etc.  Enjoy your first U/S and everything that goes along with it.  It's inspiring.

As for telling the news.  I am a first time mom due in 8wks, We did not tell our families till 3months...I believe I was one week shy of 3mos and we told them on Mothers Day.  Now my reasons were the fact that I was 39 and was afraid of some horror story for my advanced age and that something was going to happen...the news was a surprise to everyone since after 11yrs of marriage I just never planned on kids...I did not get married to have kids, I got married to spend the rest of my life with the best man in the world...but as the years went on it was now or never....as they say, never say never..and now I'm looking forward to a new chapter in my life....So I wish all the best, I hope you do not experience the morning sickness blues or the sciatic nerve problems that I had...it does fly by and before you know it...well it'll be over...I'm waiting for that part and can not wait any longer.

    Wish you the best.

    Hello Everyone,

Thank you all for your warm wishes, your experiences and of course your book suggestions. Unfortunately I had a miscarriage a few weeks ago and had not been able to come on and update the forum. I apologize. It was all just a bit too painful. I am doing better now and have a positive outlook for the future and plan to try again shortly. Hopefully the second time around will be great.

I wish you all the best. May you and your babies continue to be healthy and happy. I look forward to posting a new positive soon.

    Thank you again.

I am SO sorry to hear that, ACal. I have been through that myself and it is a very painful process. You are in my prayers and I hope you are back here quickly.

    Big hugs,

    Amy
