My husband thinks I am a snob - please help!

We have been discussing names for a while and even bought one of the name books to help us.  We have come up with a few names we both agree on so on the day we have a few to chose from.  My concern is whenever I chose a name that I think is unique to us with in a few weeks I have heard people calling their kids in the shop by it, which to me means it is a "common" name and I do not want our kids to be one in 6 in their grade called Billy, I do not however want to start making up names that noone has ever heard of.  My first choices are Oscar for a boy and Izabella for a girl...............thoughts? Am I being too fussy? Is it true that when you see the baby for the fist time you just know the name to chose?

I think you want the same thing every mom wants, but don't put so much pressure on yourself! Odds are good that someone will share your child's name, especially if you don't pick something no one has ever heard of... Just choose a name that you and your husband love, that suits your family and you won't regret it.

    Good luck!

you are thinking like every other mom out there.  In 1969 I was born and mom named me Kimberly.  I graduated with too many kims to list...and I wanted something different for child.

We also went thru books galore and web postings of many.  I decided my husband would name our daughter and if we had a boy I would name him....Give the other veto power but to mix it up.  So we found out we were having a girl and my husband came up with 2 names and I liked both....Bailey and Riley.  Well in one week I heard the name Riley 8x, I told him I liked Bailey best....in the end...the name is not used in my family...I still do not know of any and I'll chalk it up that he chose it and liked it for some reason.  It is different enough....you could drive yourself mental and it's not worth it,  but NO, you are not snobby...

I don't think you are being too fussy. I think you can just have a gut feeling on what your baby's names should be. Oscar and Izabella are cute names!
