I'm due on May 23rd and Im 16 weeks today actually.  I don't get to have my ultrasound to determine the sex until I'm 21 weeks.  That is the way my doctor's office does it and I hate it.  I found out with my first child at like 16 or 17 weeks.  We moved here from Nc to GA and they do everything so different and it sucks!   They say that they do the ultrasound to determine the sex from 20-22 weeks.  I really dont like my doctors at all.  Has anyone else had this going on or anything wierd?

That's actually very common from what I've heard.  The 20 week u/s isn't really to find out the gender, that's more of a bonus (I've learned and yes it is very frustrating! I'd love to know the gender right now.. check out my topic in "second trimester". I'm due May 19th, only a little earlier than you and had this whole frustrating discussion with the u/s tech.  I live in SD now, but it was the same thing when I had my son and we lived in FL, they said we had to wait till at least 20 weeks (I snuck in at 19 though!) and that it wasn't really to find out gender, it's to make sure baby is healthy, and all the measurements are on track. At any rate, I feel your pain and good luck!!

I guess the good news is that an ultrasound at 21 weeks will be more accurate than one at 16 or 17... my doc couldn't even tell at my 16.5, so I didn't find out until 18.5 :)  Good luck with waiting... I hope you get what you're looking for!  :)
