Low lying placenta... anyone else been dianosed with this??

As you may know from a previous post that  I put up, I experienced bleeding at 20 weeks.  My midwife told me that my ultrasound that I had at 19 weeks showed that I  had/have low lying placenta.  (But I also had an ultrasound in the ER, and they didn't say anything about that). In any event, I am no longer bleeding, taking it easy, and am scheduled for another u/s at 32 weeks- at which time I am hoping that my uterus has grown enough to where the placenta is no longer low lying. I plan to have this baby at home with my midwife, and a c-section is one of my biggest nightmares.

Has anyone else been diagnosed with low lying placenta? Did they tell you to lay off sex, or anything else until your next ultrasound?  My midwife didn't... but I am curious as to what other docs may have said/suggested.

I've also been diagnosed with a low-lying placenta based on my 18 week ultrasound. I go back for another ultrasound on May 30 (when I'll be about 24 weeks) to see if the placenta has shifted upwards at all as my uterus grows. My doctor said that it shifts upward enough in most cases to allow for a vaginal delivery, and not to worry. He did tell me to take it easy, not to have sex at least until the results of the next ultrasound are in, and to call him right away if I experience any spotting or bleeding.

Best wishes with your results at the end of this month.  I actually make 24 weeks this Friday, but I wont be scheduled for another ultrasound until I am 32 weeks- which will be the first week in July- my husband is gonna freak if  I tell him no sex until July!!  We have still been having sex- just gently and carefully- and I haven't had any bleeding since that one time.

I was also told i had a lowlying/complete previa placenta... Howver, the docs advised me that usually it does move as your baby grows. They didnt put me on strict bedrest, howver we chose for me to take off work and see...When I had another ultrasound a coupe weeks later, the docs hadnt said anythng about it, and when we inquired, they showed us on the screen that it was high away from the cervix. You should see something different at your next ultrasound, good Luck!

I was diagnosed with it in my first tri and it went up a few weeks ago.  I was put on restrictions: no sex or exercise.

There is still time for it to go up if you take it easy.  From what I have read, if it doesn't, then there is a very high chance that you will need a c-section.  Try not to worry too much over it now and see what happens at your next u/s.

    Best of luck!

Thanks. So... "no sex", meaning no sex at all?? Until when? When you had the next sonogram and it was no longer low-lying? I wonder why my midwife didn't menton that.  I mean, I can survive... my husband.. that's another story! lol

I'll ask my midwfe to be sure.

Im not sure if the no sex policy is absolutely nessecary...we contined but werent as frequent i suppose!!! but if you can get off your feet and take it easy, that will help tremendously!! Can you take a couple weeks off work at all?? with love, MommyLustre~

Well, I've been able to reduce my work schedule to 3 days a week- which was a big help.  And I do office/adminstrative work- so I am sittng at a desk- nothing strenuous.  We have cut down on the sex- just cuz I am generally not in the mood.  I'll see what my midwfe says.  Thanks again!

The no sex policy was what my Dr told me.  It could be different for you...ask your midwife.  We were no go for about 2.5 months.  It was okay for both of us b/c we had a scare prior to that.  We found out my placenta was low when we were intimate and I bled after...a lot and red blood.  As you can imagine, it totally freaked us out so when the Dr recommended no sex until the placenta moved up, we were both more than ok.

Your case may be different so it is safer to check just to be safe.

Thanks. Yeah, we were really freaked out when I started bleeding as well.  I asked my midwife about the "no sex" thing and we are supposed to discuss it today- but I think she probably would have mentioned that when she told me about the low lying placenta. It's been a month since the bleeding and I have not bled anymore after that.

No additional bleeding is great news.  I hope your meeting with your midwife goes well and everything corrects itself.

    Best of luck!

Well Nubia, hope this is some inspiration for ya!! I went for my ultrasound today, and for sure my placenta is far away from the cervix!! yay!! And the baby is happy and healthy:) So yes, theres some promise to it being able and more than likely moving for you:) Yes, i know some docs say stay off the sex for a while, mine said maybe a week...I just had light light spotting at that time....So maybe thats why I wasnt so restricted?? Wanted to share my positive story of my exam with you today, so hopefully that cheers you up:) Blessings, MommyLustre~
