Your Pregnancy: Week 11 for Mom

That’s fundus, not fungus. Even though the name stems from the Latin for “bottom,” the fundus is the top of your uterus (the Latin version actually refers to the portion of an organ opposite its opening). This week, your uterus is finally large enough to nearly fill your pelvis! You will probably start showing the adorable (and telling) pregnancy pooch in the next few weeks.

My Achey-Breaky Head
Is your head throbbing? The pounding headaches you've been experiencing are actually very common during pregnancy, especially in the first and third trimesters, and may be caused by anything from your amped-up hormones to posture and tension. Other causes include dehydration, exhaustion and low blood sugar.

See what we're telling dads about the types of childbirth classes available!

Here are a few drug-free ways to relieve that achey-breaky head of yours:

  • Avoid triggers. Some women are sensitive to certain foods or additives, like MSG or aspartame. You might find that certain smells trigger a headache as well. We've even heard tales of pizza causing migraines!

  • Get plenty of rest. A nap during the day, good sleep at night or even a quiet resting place can reduce stress and combat exhaustion, both of which may contribute to your headaches.

  • Eat healthfully. Eating smaller, more frequent meals that contain a healthy balance of sugars, fats and proteins will prevent your blood sugar from getting too low and triggering a headache.

  • Maintain good posture. This can be hard when your whole center of gravity has changed -- thanks to that burgeoning belly of yours! But if you are able to maintain proper posture, you'll avoid putting strain on improper muscles, and that will help prevent tension headaches.

  • Get a massage. If don't want to go all out for the full-body treatment, try a head and neck massage. The tension in your neck muscles will be soothed away, taking your headache with it.
