Your Pregnancy: Week 41 for Baby

By: ePregnancy

baby41Are you worried that you are about to give birth to the most stubborn person ever born? After all, he doesn't seem the slightest bit ready to budge from his cozy home! It may be that he's just decided to stay put and let things develop a little while longer.

He's still building up his immune sytem, and he's also working on his endocrine system -- which is reponsible for hormone production. Some researchers believe that hormones your baby produces during this time actually trigger labor. He's also producing stress hormones, which will be higher at birth than during any other time of his life. Those hormones help survival instincts kick in after birth and allow him to adjust to life outside his current abode.

Since he's stubbornly staying, at least for now, you have time to check over the nursery and make sure everything is in order. Here are the things you can't do without when the baby comes home:

  • Diapers -- Whether you choose cloth or disposable, have plenty on hand. You will be amazed at how much poop and pee can come out of such a tiny little body!

  • Wipes -- With all the diaper changing and wiping you'll be doing, you could buy stock in the wipes company and be set for retirement.

  • Bottles -- Glass bottles are best, but either way you'll need a few around. Even if you are breastfeeding, it's a good idea to have bottles. The occasional bottle feeding will help your baby get used to a bottle and also give your partner time to bond with the baby.

  • Crib -- If not a crib, then some sort of sleep equipment: moses basket, Pack 'n' Play, bassinet, etc. Just make sure it's assembled and ready for use.
