Your Pregnancy: Week 41 for Dad
By: ePregnancy
These last few days before birth may be agony -- and not just because the wait is hard to take! Mom is probably feeling very uncomfortable right now. The baby is head down in her pelvis, pushing against some already strained pelvic bones. She's starting to produce milk, so her breasts are pretty sore. And in addition to all that, she's been pregnant for 40 weeks! She's ready to be done with this!
So, help her out. Distract her with a new DVD or escapist book by romance maven Danielle Steele (or if Ayn Rand is her idea of escapism, we just saw a re-issue of Atlas Shrugged at the bookstore the other day). Accompany her on a walk around the neighborhood -- many women report that it eases their discomforts. There are even stories floating around that walking can help jump-start labor! A massage will help alleviate her lower back pain; foot massages would be equally welcome. The most important thing is to help her relax as much as possible.
Daddy Dispatches
If you are nervous about really being ready for a baby, here's what Scott Lage had to say: Someone once told me that if you wait for the right time to have kids, you never will because you'll never have enough time or enough money or a big enough house or a big enough car. And that person was right! Because on paper it never adds up and yet in most instances it does work out, because the moment your children are born, your entire universe shifts and puts your babies in the center.
Suddenly, recreational shopping is no longer more captivating, fine dining doesn't taste as good, 2 hours are better spent on the floor with your babies than at the movies, and all those things that you thought you had to have and had to do seem a little less important. And I think it's because of this that the lights in your home stay on, and the tank in your car has gas, and the table in your kitchen has food placed upon it.
